Residents interested in filing for a candidacy run in this year’s Watts Neighborhood Council elections must file before the Monday, Jan. 13 deadline.
While the 2025 Los Angeles Neighborhood Council elections are scheduled for April 1, those interested in running must file before the deadline.
People 18 and older who live or work in Watts can run for several open seats, including Areas 1, 3 and 5, in addition to two seats representing Watts.
Further positions include a representative from each area – local businesses and economy, health care, education, the environment and community-based organizations.
Undocumented, unhoused, formerly incarcerated and people currently on probation and parole are eligible to run for a neighborhood council seat.
Interested residents do not need an address or a clean record to participate.
Elected council members represent their neighbors and bring to light the most crucial issues to the people who call Watts home.
Area 1 covers 91st St. to 103rd St., roughly between Success and Juniper. Area 3 covers 103rd St. to Imperial Highway and Compton Avenue to Wilmington. Area 5 covers Santa Ana to Mona and south to Imperial Highway.
Interested parties who do not live or work in one of these areas can still apply as an “at-large” member or to cover one of the positions with expertise on an issue.
To run for a council position, create an account and file before midnight, Jan. 13, 2025. Terms for new members begin July 1, 2025.
Neighborhood councils make important local decisions on land use, housing, services to unhoused residents, transportation, the environment, arts, and other important issues impacting our community.
Los Angeles City Council members are required to consider neighborhood council recommendations seriously regarding program, policy, and budget priorities.
More information is available at the Los Angeles City Clerk’s office.
